Samara

Tamarindo was cool and it was even cooler to see may of my college friends whom I haven´t seen since April 28th...graduation...of last year. My friend Angel even decided to fly out on the spur on the moment from LA to meet us. As it goes it came time for us to leave to Annie and I rode on another bumpy bus and headed to Nicoya where the next day we would go to Barra Honda, which is a National Park, to hike. Anyway, we stayed that night in Nicoya in a super-sketcy motel with walls made of ply wood which seperated us from the other room to the right of us and the nasty bathroom to the left of us. Pura vida.

The next day we went to the bus station to catch the bus to Santa Ana that was the closest drop off to the National Park. As we waited for about four hours in the bus station I saw a guy that had two chickens in a bag ready to get on a random bus going to a random location...this is central America. Finally our bus came and it was about and hour long ride then the bus dropped us off on a randon four-way dirt road and pointed us in the direction we were supposed to head. When we say we´re backpacking Costa Rica that is exactly what we´ve been doing walking everywhere with out super heavy hiking bags-we´re tough though. We walked about a Kilmometer to the park and set up our tent and then decide to go on a hike. The hike went mostly up hill. We did manage to hike to a cave with no railings or anything that dropped vertically about 40ft. After, we hiked to a look out point where we could see the gulf of Jaco..or so I am told.

That night we camped and made a fire, which only took 3 hours to actually get it burning, but then I made dinner. I brought a frying pan for such an occasion. After that we went to bed, slept pretty uncomfortably then woke up about 530 the next morning and walked back to the same four way dirt road to catch a bus to Samara which is our current location until tomorrow when we go to another beach town on the pacific side called Montazuma. Tonight we are camping on the beach at a campsite.

As of today we have 21 days left which should lead for some exciting tales.

Peace,

Jeannine
