four days left...

Today is December first and tomorrow marks the point where we have officially been here one month. Officially, I return to Missouri on Friday and though my time here has been great I am ready to go home. Alot has happened since the Samara blog so I will try my best to capture some of the things that we did. After Samara we went to a beach called Montezuma which is on the pacific side of Costa Rica. We stayed there about 4 days and camped on the beach one night (which would be our last night of camping). We hiked a few hours to a waterfall located on the beach, yet again we had a stray dog accompany us the entire way. Apparently, you have to shoo them away to leave but we would learn that later.

After, finishing my sixth book in Montezuma we take a 2 day journey to go hike a 14km hike up Chirrpo which is a national park located about an hour inland from San Isidro. We prepared ourselves with some food and a few other necessities but we were not quite prepared for the mountain. 14km is about 9 to 10 miles so we hiked up, up, and up for 7.5 hours and made the base camp located at the top of Chirrpo. Since it rained the entire way up and it was about 32 degrees we decided that we were cold and that we would not stay the second night that we had originally paid for and head down the next day. The following day it was raining harder then it was on the hike up, so we were wet sliding down the mountain in mud. Needless to say, it would have been cool to hang out up there if we could have seen anything but rain and cloud.

We decided at that point we had had enough mountain so we went to Panama in hopes of going to Bocas del Torro a small island located off the Caribbean coast, unfortunately we did not make it because of the massive amount of rain that Panama was receiving. We did stay two days in a place called David. We were recommended a hostel that just opened up. Since it was raining most of the time there I noticed that the owners had alot of wall space so I asked if I could paint a mural and they agreed and even bought that paint. I was a good way to pass some time.

After Panama we went to a small beach town located about 2 hours away from San Isidro called Dominical. Pretty much we layed out and read, when it rain we lounged in hammocks. We met a cool Canadian girl named Loral that was traveling for two months and ate even ate thanksgiving dinner with her. Thanksgiving consisted of fish tacos and pasta.

After Dominical we wanted to go back to Quepos to put us in a good place to be able to easily make it to Jaco on Tuesday so we can see Annie´s uncle, so we went to another beach town called Manuel Antonio. We stayed at a very cheap hostel with a dorm that fit 12, but it was a nice family run business called, ¨Vista Serena¨. The owners were Costa Rican but were born in the US. They were very nice and we exchanged services of talents if you were to say that, Annie and I painted chairs in exchange for a BBQ dinner...Annie didn´t so much eat the BBQ. Anyway, we went a hung out at a rad national park beach and spent our time reading and relaxing, it was pretty nice.

Today, we left Manuel Antonio to go back to Quepos so we could easily access the bus station to go to Jaco tomorrow. We bought our bus tickets to go to San Jose on Thursday. I bought a watch today because mine broke and I tend to like to know what time it is. We did decided to stay in a place tonight that has AC and does not have bunk beds, we figured that we have been pretty cheap so we splurged. Other than that we are having a cool time...and yes dad I even took a shower today and scrubbed my feet.

Until Later,

Jeannine
