I have been a running fool since I got here two months ago. I have been pretty disconcerted the past few days because of fatigue, lack of motivation, and rain. I always feel great once I complete a run and have really been enjoying it. I ran last week a five mile coastal run, which was beautiful, the weather amazing. The only downfall was the attacking dog, but he got squirted with mace. Here in American Samoa, it is imperative to have some means to fight dogs because they are vicious. Anyway, if this is possible that was the easiest five miles I have ever run. I was about to take off on a long run yesterday and was ready to go, but then ended up talking to my mom and brother via Skype and the motivation just slipped away so I ate ice cream instead. Today, I hit the road, and the sky turned black and my legs were throbbing and well my mind set sucked so I ran 3 miles which was a let down. Last week I clocked 13 miles, but should have hit more, but I was having motivation issues, and only worked out four days. This week, I am going to really try to focus on running, and try to stay positive about it. I would like to clock about 20 miles but we shall see. I have concluded that running is 50% physical and 50% mental, because you can't really do one without the other. I used to run in high school but I don't think I quite had the mental part down and would never walk in a race but probably could have ran harder. Now, I just try to always run with a good attitude, because that is how I am the most successful. I can ran farther now, then I ever did in high school ;)
Happy Trails,
Jeannine
