Beauty in the Ordinary

This is what is looks like, a picture taken from the stall at the Roxy. yes, I did carry my camera into the stall with me (SLR owners tend to be a little protective of their cameras). There are a couple reasons why I love this picture: one being the black and white contrast is neato. The second reason is that it takes something "ordinary" that we see all the time--well atleast a couple times a day, and makes it art.

While in Samoa, I did not have the chance to be as artistic as I like, there were little to no places to buy supplies...and taking all that shiz back to the US was not goiong to be an option. Instead I enjoyed the great outdoors, because why, if living on an island would you be inside? Needless to say once I returned I had my camera in my hand or a palate knife and ta da the world made a little more sense. I remember reading an interview of Jack Johnson once in Rolling Stone and he says that he essentially loves to play music but if he is on tour to too many places without an ocean he feels weird, that is where he fits. Well I fit into art and making it and I don't feel "right" when I am away for too long. Now I return full throttle, balls to the wall, to the art world. Making real, messy, raw, everyday art.

That in mind, I have just began a new project aiming at documenting ordinary life--the life that we all live, from laundry to making dinner to going out... and all the beauty in what is considered the day-to-day. There will be alot of photography popping up on here as well as writing, because I consider writing to also be a form of art. Anyway, as I have a couple, rare, hours to "chill" I am taking advantage of all!

Vive la VIDA,

JEannine
